Il mondo è piatto
At the end it is all perception and depends on your point of view. In the light of the forceful occurrences and destruction in the world it seems that it is an urge to change the world – or to slit this one open and just step into another one, a better one, a fairer one.
The components of the exhibition feature 2d patterns which interact and transform the physical shape of the furniture and turn graphics into architecture, opening up a window into another galaxy. This is the starting point for my investigation in the world of illusion. The interior becomes the scale model of an entire city, landscape or planet and transforms the space in which it is placed. The carpets transmute into an abyss, an infinite downstairs - the furniture into endless structures.
The installation turns into an archetype of architecture where there is no top and no ground.
“Il mondo è piatto !” - the world is flat is a project that shows that we can be visually manipulated - and makes evident how easily we can be fooled. The installation plays with our perception of things - and with our perception of reality. Furniture triggers and stimulates the thoughts and encourages the brain to work, this is when pure visual information encounters controlled ratio. Nowadays it is hard, at times impossible, to tell what is real and what is not. is it real what our eyes see? Or is it real what we see after our brain edits what we see? Fast digtal distribution serves to a trend where the visual image of the object is almost more important than the real piece itself. At the end it is all perception and depends on your point of view. In the light of the forceful occurrences and destruction in the world it seems that it is an urge to change the world – or to slit this one open and just step into another one, a better one, a fairer one.
